There is perhaps no better way to make an impact on both individuals and society than to make a gift to higher education through the Jacksonville State University Foundation. With dwindling state support for higher education, private gifts are critically important to the future of the University. Your gift will help Jacksonville State University uphold its margin of excellence and support its commitments to ensure opportunities for student enrichment and achievement, enhance academic and athletic programs, and continue its reputation as an outstanding institution of higher education.
Although it may seem like a gift of $5 or $100 wouldn't have much impact, every contribution adds to the total of funding available to the University and departments. For example, if 10 donors made gifts of $50 to the Foundation, a $500 award could be given to an outstanding undergraduate in an academic program. That can make a real difference to a JSU students.
Jacksonville State University receives less than 50% of its total operating budget from the State of Alabama. That makes JSU a "state assisted" rather than a "state supported" institution. The margin of excellence is gained only through the generous contributions and deferred gifts of alumni, corporations, private foundations, businesses, and friends. This will be increasingly true for JSU in the years ahead.
Absolutely! The JSU Foundation enables donors to choose where their money is directed. You can support a scholarship or a specific program, organization, or discipline. Unrestricted monies also make a difference to under-served programs or help the University take advantage of new opportunities.
Yes. All gifts to the JSU Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. There may be special tax advantages for certain types of gifts and the Foundation will be pleased to assist you in determining the best method of giving.
Section 170(l) of the Internal Revenue Code sets values for university ticket priority payments. Twenty percent is allocated to the ticket priority and eighty percent is a charitable contribution. If other benefits (amenities) are covered by the payment, such as tickets, concessions, programs, parking passes, or donor events, the value of these must first be deducted from the payment, and the balance is 80 percent tax deductible. Based on the number of home games and other factors, the amenities value can vary each year.
